Video: 11 unmissable Saturday moments from 2024 Revival

It’s a recipe we know works. Take hundreds of historic racing cars, add a host of world class drivers and simmer in a competitive environment. The result? Some of the very best racing you’ll see anywhere in the world... throughout the entire weekend. Narrowing down the best moments to a top ten simply proved impossible, so instead here are the eleven best moments from day two of the 2024 Goodwood Revival.

Take, for example, Jimmie Johnson using his Aston Martin DB4 GT to pass three AC Cobras in one deft move during the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy. The next clip restores the honour of the Anglo-American sports car when Gordon Shedden puts of a display of knife-edge car control in the RAC TT Celebration.

Next we move to two-wheeled action in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy. Watch as a Vincent Black Shadow and Matchless G80 engage in a close battle around the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The Goodwood Trophy provided equally close racing when the battle between Mark Gillies (ERA A-type R3A) and James Baxter (ERA E-type GP2) came down to the last lap.

The St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul for 1960s saloon cars is up next, with plenty of door-to-door action. The racing is close quarters but contact-free, a real illustration of the skill on display from the star drivers. It’s a similar story in the Madgwick Cup where Lola Mk1 drivers Keith Ahlers and Ben Adams were side by side for an entire lap.

Next we return to the St. Mary’s Trophy where we ride on board the number eight Mini as it chases the significantly larger Ford Galaxie through Lavant Corner and to the chicane, the modest British car keeping its brash American rival honest.

Back to two-wheeled action next for the start of the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy where the riders have to sprint to their machines from the other side of the track, in classic Le Mans style.

In the Fordwater Trophy, the lead was hotly contested by Tim Crighton in his Austin-Healey 100/6 and the Jaguar XK150 of Marc Gordon. It was the latter who was eventually victorious, but he had to work hard for it. The lead changed multiple times throughout the encounter. Upping the power, we head to the Whitsun Trophy presented by Sky for V8-engined sports prototype racers. The key battle here was between Miles Griffiths in his McLaren M1A and the Lola T70 of Oli Bryant. It’s as sensational to hear as it is spectacular to watch.

Rounding off the video is BTCC star Rob Huff’s master class of car control aboard a Jaguar E-type in the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy which is an apt summary of the joy of watching racing at the Goodwood Revival.
